Nathaniel Currier, publisher (American, 1813-1888) CLIPPER SHIP "RED JACKET. ," 1855 (Conningham, 1165). Identified in inscriptions in the matrix. Large folio lithograph with hand-coloring on paper, sheet size 20 3/8 x 27 1/4 in., in a period molded wood frame. Condition: Margins 1 1/2 in. or more, laid down onto paper, repaired tears: two repaired tears into image, several in margins, toning, foxing, light stains, surface grime, paper slightly rippled. Note: This lithograph ranked no. 41 in the original "Best 50," and no. 15 in the "New Best 50," large folio. Tears into image: in water through bowsprit l.l. about 4 1/2 lg.; About 9 1/2 in. lg. from top edge into image through main mast and sail. Approx. 6 other tears in margins with old whitener material applied to these areas.
