René Magritte (Belgian, 1898-1967) Plate 6 from LA FIDÉLITÉ DES IMAGES, 1976, edition of 100. Numbered, inscribed, and initialed "11/100 VI ..." in pencil beneath the image, identified on a label from the Obelisk Gallery, Boston, on the backing. Gelatin silver print, image size 3 1/4 x 4 1/4 in. (8.4 x 10.9 cm), framed. Condition: Good. N.B. Louis Scutenaire (1905-1987) was a central figure of Belgian Surrealism, and a close friend of René Magritte. In 1976 Scutenaire put together a group of images reflecting his friend's photographic work shot between approximately 1925 and 1955. He titled the group La Fidélité des images. The sheet measures 9 3/8 x 7 in. The vertical, serpentine line visible in the middle of the sky appears to be part of the printing itself; not a water stain.
