Uncut Yellow Kesi Dragon Robe, China, Qing Dynasty (1644-1912), the yardage comprising the front, back, and overflap, woven with twelve Imperial symbols and with nine five-clawed dragons chasing flaming pearls amidst clouds, bats, shou characters, and Buddhist emblems against a wan -fret ground, above a lishui border, all worked in gold with details in color; together an uncut kesi panel of cuffs, collars, and trim woven with similar dragon decorations on dark fret ground, 62 x 44 in. Provenance: From the estate of Richard Young, Van Hornesville, NY. This collection originally belonged to his stepmother, Louise Powis Brown Young, who had amassed the textiles during the first quarter of the 20th century.
