Archaic Bronze Wine Vessel, Gu , China, possibly Late Shang Dynasty, cylindrical, rising from a splayed foot to a broad trumpet mouth, the neck cast with upright lappets filled with leiwen bands, the slender midsection and foot cast with flanges and further leiwen design, with inscription at the interior of the foot, all covered with verdigris, ht. 10 7/8 in. Provenance: Purchased in 1949 from K. Watanabe & Co., with original receipt. Note: No technical examination done.
