Painted Thangka, Tibet, 20th century, possibly of Avalokiteshvara, distemper on cloth, the five-faced, eight-armed deity seated in rajalilasana on a lotus flower growing out of a lake and backed by a mandorla, holding a ritual implement in each hand, including vajra , kartika , fly-whisk, and dadar , surrounded by dragons and deities amidst clouds, together with four Buddhas seated in lotus thrones and Mahakala in pratyalidhasana on a lotus base, border painted in white with dragons and clouds on navy blue ground, with a Tibetan inscription written within a central cartouche at the bottom; with silk borders and cover, mounted as a hanging scroll, 27 1/2 x 21 in.
