Michel Sasson (1936-2013) performed the Mendelssohn Violin Concerto with the Cairo Symphony when he was eight years old. He received his musical education at the Paris Conservatory, studying with Nadia Boulanger and others, and completed post-graduate studies at the New England Conservatory. After joining the Boston Symphony in 1958 at age 22, he went on to found the Newton Symphony and eventually became Music Director of the Boston Ballet, with conducting appearances at the American Ballet Theater and La Scala.
