James Watt & Co. Copier Press, England, c. 1795, mahogany and brass bound case with recessed side handles, hinged lid opening to reveal a removable tray with various compartments, diametric-linear brass roller, T-bar wood and brass crank, drying book, the lower drawer housing the damping box, lg. 18 3/4, dp. 12 1/4, ht. 7 1/4 in. Note: James Watt (1736-1819) was better known for improving the cylinder piston steam engine, but towards the end of the 18th century he focused on smaller inventions including this copying machine. Provenance: Reportedly descended through the family beginning with Noble Wimberly Jones.
