American, 20th century. Pair of matching regency style armchairs in the manner of Hitchcock Chair Company, Hitchcockville, Connecticut. Each with stencil decorated back slat with fern frond, snake and spear, and fruit basket motif above rush seat raised on turned wood legs with box stretcher support accented in gilt.
