Ludwig Thiersch (German, 1825-1909) Elegant Couple Sketching and Reading by a Lake Signed and dated "L. Thiersch 1874" l.l. Oil on canvas, 32 3/4 x 48 7/8 in. (83.0 x 124.0 cm), framed. Condition: Small repaired tear to center corresponding to a patch reinforcement on the reverse, small tear (3/4 in.) to the background in l.l. quadrant, craquelure, minor paint losses, mild surface grime. Provenance: Henry Postar, Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts, then by descent within the family to the current owner.
