Hazel Finck (American, 1894-1977) Design for Living , 1940 Signed "finck" l. r., titled in pencil on the stretcher, titled and dated on a label affixed to the stretcher. Oil on canvas, 20 x 24 in. (50.5 x 61.0 cm), framed. Condition: Minor retouch, rippling, surface grime. N.B. According to a label affixed to the stretcher, Design for Living was exhibited at the 12th Annual New Jersey State exhibition, Montclair, in 1942, and in a two-man show at the Irvington Museum in 1943. A second label recounts the artist's description of this scene as "...typical of small houses in small towns all over the country."
