Continental Brass- and Alabaster-mounted Mahogany Veneer Secretaire Abattant, second quarter 19th century, with pierced gallery over central mirrored medial door flanked by two partially engaged alabaster and brass Corinthian columns, and centering two doors with ebonized medallions mounted with classical brass maidens, over long shallow drawer and pull-down writing surface opening to reveal interior fitted with eight short drawers with burl- and string-inlaid fronts, two divided compartments, and a central well flanked by further alabaster and brass columns, with tambour door and mirrored interior and parquetry floor, over two long drawers, on square tapered feet, ht. 76 1/4, wd. 40 1/2, dp. 18 1/2 in. Scattered loss to exterior veneer (some off but present), some previously reglued. Crack across top right alabaster column. Gallery on right side with loose and with previous repair. Shrinkage cracks to sides of case. Lacking brass key escutcheons (one off but present). Brass base of left interior column off but present. Mirrored interior of central compartment with cracks.
