Transfer-decorated Liverpool Pottery Jug, England, early 19th century, ovoid creamware jug, one side depicting an oval wreath surrounding a figure of a sailor looking through a sextant, over the verse "We have had a good Observation today/And I hope we shall make the Land Tomorrow," over a reserve depicting navigational instruments; the reverse depicting an American ship in full sail with polychrome enamel details, under the spout is the monogram "CL" and a verse "From Rocks & Sands, And every ill, May God preserve/the Sailor Still" both in round reserves; and the seal of the United States under the bottom handle terminal, (minor toning, base hairlines), ht. 10 1/4 in.
