Scrimshaw Whale's Tooth, 19th century, the obverse decorated with a swan in a circular reserve over patriotic motifs of thirteen stars above a spreadwing eagle and an American shield in a cloud-like reserve flanked by furled flags and panoply, heightened with red and blue pigments, over a ship-of-the-line at sea, flanked by two small round reserves depicting the Seal of Massachusetts, and an anchor floating above the sea with distant vessel, the reverse depicting an urn-topped monument beside a weeping willow tree, with sawtooth and swag and tassel borders at the top and a geometric border around the base, ht. 5 1/8 in. Provenance: Family descent from the consignor's great-grandfather who passed away in 1910. The families resided in Massachusetts.
