Arts & Crafts Gold and Limoges Enamel Pendant, Alexander Fisher, England, c. 1896-1904, depicting a scene of the Madonna and Child, with monogrammed drop, and suspended from delicate chain, the enamel approx. 1 1/4 x 1 in., signed AF in the enamel. Note: In her book, Jewelry & Metalwork in the Arts & Crafts Tradition , Elyse Zorn Karlin calls Fisher "the undisputed master of enamelling". His techniques included cloisonne, Limoges, champleve, basse-taille, and plique-a-jour. He would often use several layers of enamel in order to give depth to his scenes, as can be seen here. His work is in numerous museum collections, including the Victoria and Albert Museum, London.
