Stief Jewelry Co., the silver-tone dial with Arabic numeral indicators and subsidiary seconds dial, enclosing an 18-jewel manual-wind movement, no. 812648, the case with black enamel accents and monogram, no. 293055, 44 mm, triple signed, boxed; together with a 14kt white gold watch chain with black and red enamel accents, lg. 13 1/4 in. Note: Accompanied by Certificate of Origin & Warranty. Provenance: American poet and phsychiatrist Merrill Moore. The watch case interior is inscribed "The noise that time makes in passing by is very slight but even you can hear it." This is the first line of Moore's poem "The Noise that Time Makes," published in 1929.
