White Leather Child's Shoe, by Tradition Belonging to Tsarevich Alexei Nikolaevich, made by Henry Weiss, St. Petersburg, Nevsky 66, early 20th century, with white silk rosette to vamp, ankle strap with button, lined in white leather, possible remains of monogram to heel, and sole stamped with maker's trademark in gilt, lg. of sole 5 15/16, with a framed period photograph postcard of the tsarevich wearing the shoe, sight size 5 1/2 x 3 1/4 in. Provenance: Purchased by Sophie Dupre at a French auction in 2000. A copy of a letter from Dupre authenticating the shoe accompanies the lot; in it she claims the shoe is one of the two in the photograph, that it directly descended from the family of Grand Duke Cyril Vladimirovich, and was sold with other family possessions.
