Pair of Victorian Gilded Silver Herd Trophies, London, one 1896-97, the other with date letter rubbed, maker's mark with a crown over a shield bearing the initials "AB" above "AHB," stamped for retailer "Hunt & Roskell late Storr & Mortimer," and numbered "1460," both cast as a cattle bust and inscribed "Purchased out of Prize Money/won by/Sir Jeremiah Colman's Short Horn Herd," dp. 5 3/8 in.; 39.7 troy oz. N.B. Jeremiah Colman (1859-1942) was an industrialist whose wealth stemmed from the mustard brand of the same name. He pursued cattle and sheep breeding as a gentleman farmer at Gatton Park, his estate in Surrey.
