Engraved by Frederick Stacpoole (English, 1813-1907) after the painted by Elizabeth "Lady Butler" Thompson (British, 1846-1933). "Balaclava 25th Oct. 1854", hand colored engraving, published in 1880. Engraving depicts a scene during the Battle of Balaclava of October 25, 1854 during the Crimean War, which was part of Siege of Sevastopol (1854–1855), Russia's principal naval base on the Black Sea. French and Ottoman soldiers progress up a hill toward the viewer, away from a brutal battle. Framed approximately 39.25" x 46.5", sight size approximately 22" x 39.35".
