Polychrome Carved Pine and Tin Indian Weather Vane, Maine, late 19th century, double-sided weather vane depicting the figure kneeling and drawing his bow and arrow, wearing a feathered headdress made of tin and painted yellow, red, and blue, the face decorated with a star, the ears accented with crescent earrings; red, yellow, and black painted garment, one legging with stars and a crescent, the figure supported on a cutout pine, grassy painted base, iron mounts affixed to one side, (imperfections), total ht. 51 1/2, lg. 49 1/2 in. Provenance: Oral history indicates this weather vane once topped the meeting hall of the fraternal organization Order of Red Men. Ex Bernard Barenholtz collection.
