Large Square Painted Tinware Trunk, attributed to the Connecticut Filley Tinshop, early 19th century, the trunk with hinged lid with brass swing handle on oval floral embossed plate, opening to three interior compartments, the top is decorated with leafy vines in yellow, three sides are ornamented with a white band with red, green, and black flowers and berries, above a border with flowers and buds in red, green, and yellow, all on a black ground, (minor scattered paint wear), ht. 5 5/8, wd. 11 1/4, lg. 11 1/4 in. The trunk is illustrated in American Painted Tinware, Vol. III, by Gina Martin and Lois Tucker, Historical Society of American Decoration Inc., New York, p. 19; and in The Decorator, Journal of the Historical Society of Early American Decoration Inc., Fall 2004, Vol.58, No. 2., p. 31.
