Attributed to Thomas Ware (American, 1803-1827) Portrait of Prudence Elizabeth Ware Thompson (1816-? ). Unsigned, attributed to Thomas Ware, uncle of the subject, c. 1820. Oil on panel, bust-length painting of the brown-haired child wearing a yellow dress with a square collar and holding a bouquet of flowers, 15 1/2 x 13 1/2 in., in a molded gilt frame. Condition: Split in three sections, minor touch-up. Note: Inscribed in black paint indistinctly "Prudence" on verso. Provenance: The four-year-old child in the portrait is the great-great grandmother of the consignor.
