Silk Needlework and Watercolor Picture, attributed to The Misses Patten School, Hartford, Connecticut, 1800-10, a depiction of a Biblical scene "Moses in the Bulrushes," surmounted by a highly raised and padded metallic embroidered eagle holding a floral swagged garland suspended from spangled bow knots at the upper corners, the picture in an oval format, worked in chenille and solid stitches with handpainted figures and background, framed in spangles and partially surrounded by sheaves of wheat and other grains, (padded and glued to cardboard, very minor toning), 17 x 13 3/4 in. Note: The Misses Patten School was founded in 1785 in Hartford with three sisters as instructors, and continued successfully until 1825.
