Appliquéd Cotton Peacock Quilt, southeastern Pennsylvania, c. 1850-70, central bouquet of flowers and berries issuing from an urn-like device, topped with a stylized peacock, surrounded by ten flower and bud motifs, a small floral bouquet and star motif decorates each corner, enclosed by swag and bud and sawtooth borders, in predominantly red, green, yellow, and gold solid and printed fabric on a white field, the peacock and berrie are stuffed, white backing, diagonal line and scrolled floral quilt stitching, (scattered light stains, minor toning, wear on some edges), 82 1/2 x 69 in. Provenance: Oral history relates that the quilt is of Moravian origin, deaccessioned from the Pennsylvania Quilt and Textile Museum, Lititz, Pennsylvania.
