Maurits Cornelius Escher (Dutch, 1898-1972) Puddle, 1952 (Bool et al. , 378). Signed "MCEscher" in pencil l.l., signed and dated in the block, inscribed "eigen druk" in pencil l.r. Woodcut in black, brown, and gray/green on laid Japan paper, image size 9 1/2 x 12 1/2 in. (24.2 x 31.7 cm), unmatted, unframed. Condition: Margins approximately 1 1/2 inches. Provenance: The M.C. Escher Family Foundation, c. 1982, to the present owners. N.B. The image for the trees reflected in the puddle come from Escher's Pineta of Calvi, Corsica, of 1933.
