John and Joseph W. Meeks (American (New York), mid 19th century), a very fine American rococo carved and laminated rosewood etagere (circa 1860). Etagere with carved scrolled foliate, floral and arabesque accented crest at top above arched mirror back flanked by three graduated shelves with mirrored backs on turned supports on sides. Lower portion with white marble serpentine top with ogee edge above pierced and ornately carved apron with flowers, scrolled foliates and arabesques, mirrored back with display shelf on each sides above stretcher shelf connecting four cabriole legs with finely carved and decorated knees terminating on scrolled feet. Approximate height 105", width 59.5", depth 21". Provenance: M.S. Rau Antiques, New Orleans, Louisiana whereby acquired by Mr. and Mrs. Burkemper, St. Louis, Missouri in June of 2001.
