Fine Organocleide Musical Box by Bremond, No. 15416, playing six popular and operatic airs including embellished arrangements of the Carnival of Venice and God Save the Queen , with two-piece musical comb (mandoline teeth acrossapproximately two-thirds of the length) and central percussion comb for nine saucer bells (eight mounted vertically, the central bell horizontally) with engraved wasp strikers and gilt lyre-form bell-support, the governor stamped BAB , in burr-walnut veneered case with mitered edges, boxwood stringing and tulipwood banding to front sides and pierced inner lid, on matching table with scalloped apron and foliate-carved, ebonized and veneered cabriole legs, wd. 29 in., cylinder 17 in. Provenance: By family descent from Commodore Daniel Lawrence Braine, commissioned Rear Admiral in 1887 and retired in 1891.
