Perret's Patent Electric Motor, No. 5281, by Elektron Mfg. Co., Springfield , with coil, double-belt drive-shaft, and cast plaques on each side Perret's Patent, May 14. 1889, July 15. 1890. No. 5281, Volts 110, H.P. 1, Amp 8. The Elektron Mfg. Co., Springfield, MA ., on shaped brass mount, wd. 21 x ht. 14 in. Note: Frank Elvord Perret founded the Elektron Manufacturing Co., Brooklyn, in 1886, at the age of twenty, after working for Thomas Edison at his New York East Side Laboratory, developing motors and dynamos. After partner John H. Barret left Elektron to pursue his own designs for a battery, Perret brought in Elihu H. Cutler to oversee the company's expansion - a move which led to a relocation to new premises in Springfield, Massachusetts. Here Elektron concentrated on elevator production and built elevators with 10-ton capacity and speeds of up to 300 fpm. Perret eventually left Elektron in 1904 to become a leading expert on volcanoes, and Elektron was acquired by the Otis Elevator Co. in 1906.
