Monkey Musician Automaton by Farkass, France, circa 1930, with composition head, open mouth, painted eyes and white mohair Pompadour wig, seated on draped stool before a music stand, holding a violin and bow in graceful monkey paws, the cylinder movement playing the Menuet de Boccherini and causing the figure to incline his head and look from side to side, while moving the bow in his right hand and his body in time with the music, in the original 18th century style costume comprising brocaded waistcoat and tailcoat with lace jabot and cuffs, and satin breeches trimmed with braid, on yellow velvet-covered base with mitered corners, tune-sheet and ebonized bun feet, ht. 14 1/2 in.
