Carved and Pierced Oak Dower Box with Brass Handle, Germany or Pennsylvania Dutch, the square box with overhanging top, with relief-carved initials "IJ" and the year "1746" on the door panel, and birds, tulips, fruit, and floral and foliate motifs carved on each side, the top with a brass swing handle, on turned bun feet, (repaired crack on door), ht. to top of box 7 7/8, dia. 8 1/2 to 9 1/4 in. Note: The box contains c. mid-20th century typed description label with letterhead from Harry Pierce, Antiques, Art Objects and Gifts, Beverly Hills, California.
