South Sea Pearl, Black Diamond, and Diamond Necklace, Christopher Walling, composed of thirty-two pearls spaced by black diamond and diamond rondels, and completed by an 18kt white gold clasp with pave-set black diamond and diamond melee, lg. 28 1/2 in., signed. Note: Christopher Walling, a self-taught jeweler, began creating Minoan-style jewelry at the age of eight with twisted telephone wire. An appreciation for minimalism is evident in his jewelry. He often uses baroque pearls in his work, his trademark stone. His creations have been featured in two PBS documentaries; the Nova program, 'Mystique of the Pearl' and the Nature special 'Diamonds.' His jewelry is worn by numerous public figures including Renee Taylor, Danielle Steele, Kathleen Turner, and the late Elizabeth Taylor. Additionally, Walling's work has been exhibited in museums throughout the United States, and an abalone pearl named for him was exhibited at the Smithsonian in Washington D.C.
