Rare Gold, Carnelian Intaglio, and Enamel Ring, Marie Zimmermann, the large intaglio depicting a Classical maiden with sheaves of wheat, polychrome enamel bezel with stylized palm leaf shoulders, size 6 1/2. Note: Pictured in The Jewelry and Metalwork of Marie Zimmermann , p. 191. Marie Zimmermann (1879-1972) metalsmith, jeweler, and designer was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. She studied at the Packer Collegiate Institute, Art Students' League, and Pratt Institute. Her diverse influences included Egyptian, Classical, and Chinese forms, and she experimented with these motifs. She ran her studio at the National Arts Club in New York City from around 1910-1937. Her eclectic work is in numerous museums in the United States including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Art Institute of Chicago, and the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.
