Blue and White Shallow Vessel, China, 19th/20th century, possibly a narcissus planter, rectangular with lobed corners, the interior depicting figures in a landscape scene with a walled city along the banks of a river, with a poem written on the upper right corner, the interior walls with stylized lotus and peony blossoms, the exterior decorated with vignettes of plum blossom, bamboo, chrysanthemum, and iris plants against a geometric blossom ground, on four bracket feet, six-character Jiaqing mark on base, 2 x 13 3/8 x 8 1/2 in. Provenance: Acquired in 1963 from The Pig & Saddle, Boston, to the present owner by family descent. Original receipt available.
