Jade Censer, China, 18th/19th century, the compressed globular body of the censer is carved in low relief with stylized taotie masks interrupted by a pair of handles issuing from large dragon heads, allsupported on three lion-mask feet, dark green stone with pale green and white inclusions, dia. 6 5/8 in. Provenance: Purportedly acquired by Baron von Kettler and passed on to current owner by descent. Note: Baron von Kettler (1853-1900) joined the Imperial German diplomatic corps and was appointed the Plenipotentiary of the German Empire at Beijing in 1899. He was later killed in the Boxer Rebellion.
