Transfer-decorated Liverpool Creamware Jug, attributed to the Herculaneum Pottery, Liverpool, England, early 19th century, barrel-shaped pitcher, one side depicting an American ship with polychrome enamel highlighting the American flag and pennant, the hull, and the water, the reverse depicting a view of the coastal town of Stonington, Connecticut, under naval attack, surrounded by two banners inscribed "The Gallant Defence of STONINGTON. August 9th 1814" and "Stonington is free whilst her Heroes have one gun left"; with black-painted foliage on the spout over the Great Seal and the initials "WBD" in foliate script, (minor spout chip, light staining), ht. 10 1/2 in.
